(1840-1926)

Catalogue Raisonné

of his paintings

Introduction:
On this page you will find the numbers of the Catalogue Raisonné (=CR) of Wildenstein on the works of Claude Monet (1996=R22). The Catalogue Raisonné renders all the known paintings of Monet, rendering information an the work, including the provenance, the bibliography and the exhibition history. They will be listed per year and when possible links will be given to internal pages with pictures that were exhibited at the Salon, or at the ‘impressionist’ expositions of 1874, 1876, 1877, 1879 or 1882, regional exhibitions or other exhibitions. When possible links will be given to external websites of Musea, auction sites, namely Christie’s (=iR15) and Sotheby’s (=iR14), the list of paintings on WikiPedia (=iR3), WikiMedia (=iR6), ArtsandCulture (=iR8), Joconde (=iR23), art.rmngp.fr (=iR127), PubHist (=iR135), art-monet.com (=iR51) or other pages. There also will be links to the online version of the catalogue raisonné published by the Wildenstein/Platter Institute (= wpi.art/monet =iR182). See also the overview of 300+ pictures of Monet on this website.
Note: I stopped with more extended references after CR238 and less extended references after CR472. Of the upgoing numbers I only render a more general overview.
Many works were once in the collection of Durand-Ruel (=DR).
Many works were once auctioned, namely at Hôtel Drouot (=HD), at Georges Petit (=GP) or Durand-Ruel (=DR). There are references to (early) owners (see art-collectors).
The following Musea have many paintings of Monet:
Musée d’Orsay in Paris (=M1)
Musée Marmottan in Paris (=M2)
Art Institute Chicago (=M20)
National Gallery of Art in Washington (=M21)
MFA Boston (=M22)
Metropolitan in New York (=M23)
Note1: the works indicated in red with – are destroyed or lost.
Note 2: some works have two catalogue numbers, but are identified as being the same; the second one is rendered in orange.
Note 3: Other sources may render other years of creation.
