Degas 1886 expo

Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

Edgar Degas

(1834-1917)

At the 8th impressionist exposition in 1886

an impression of his exhibited art-works

Which art-works did Degas exhibit in 1886?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the 15 (or maybe just 10) pastels that were shown by Edgar Degas at the 8th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1886 (catalogue numbers 14-28). Particular was the serie of nudes that Degas exhibited. I render the pastels in order of the catalogue numbers. Note: If you double click on the first picture and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. On a smartphone or laptop you can also zoom in. Enjoy!

Explication:
Though the catalogue (nos: 14-28) indicates that Edgar Degas exhibited 15 art-works, he probably did show just 10 pastels. Number 17 and 18 maybe weren’t exhibited and though not indicated in the catalogue no.18 probably was a pastel. Particular was the serie of nudes that Degas exhibited. There are 6 activities mentioned in the catalogue of women doing there toilet. There were many reviews, but still it is unclear how many works Degas did exhibited and which, see identification. Maybe 2 or 3 of these nudes were not exhibited. See link for an account. See also a thematical overview of his exhibited art-works. For explanation of the subscriptions, see. See for the used sources at the bottom of the main page about Edgar Degas.
