Intro:
On this page you will find an overview of the paintings and other art-works of Auguste Renoir that are used on this website. The emphasize is on the works shown at the ‘impressionist’ expositions (in 1874, 1876, 1877 and 1882), at the Salon and at other exhibitions. Self-portraits and family portraits:
Here below you will find the self-portraits that Renoir made, the portraits of Aline Charigot, with whom he married in 18xx and of his family.

 

Portraits:
Here below you will find in a chronological order the portraits that Renoir made. Renoir portraits his painting friends Sisley, Bazille and Monet (and their family). Renoir portrayed several members of one family, mostly as a commission. The paintings (and some pastels) will be rendered partly grouped per family and partly chronological.

Here below you will find in a chronological order the figure paintings that Renoir made showing one figure. Some of the figures are identified models, but they are depicted as an anomynous model. I render the paintings partly chronological and partly grouped per model and / or theme.

Landscapes:
Renoir hardly dated his landscapes. Often the dating is disputed and diverse suggestions are given. I will render the landscapes chronological (after the latest insights) and partly thematical, so you can discern a development within the same theme. When the landscape is more prominent than the depicted figures, it will be shown here below.
Namely interesting is the following exhibition catalogue: Bailey, Colin B. e.o.: The landscapes of Renoir, 1865-1883, exhibition catalogue London, Ottawa and Philadelphia. London, 2007 (=R460).

 

 

Still lifes:
Throughout his life Renoir made several still lifes. Some are impressionist master pieces. The dating is more than once disputed.

 

Classical themes:
Here below you will find the paintings of Renoir, showing classical and oriental scenes.

 

Other art-works:
Renoir also made pictures with other techniques to make art-works, like pastels and drawings. Here below you will find some of them.

 

 

Engravings:
Renoir also has made some engravings. Loys Delteil has listed these works in his 17th volume of ‘Le peintre-graveurs illustré’ (=R138XVII).
In the future I will render some examples.

 

Sculptures:
Around 1907 Renoir started to make some sculptures and medallions. From 1913-17 he was assisted by Richard Guino, a pupil of Maillol. 1918 onwards he is assisted by Louis Morel. (R31,p290;R30,p14)

Overviews in other sources:
There are several sources that also provide an overview of the pictures of Auguste Renoir.
In 1920 Meier-Graefe published his second edition of his biography; it included 100 pictures (aR14=iR19). The first edition was published in 1911.
In 1919 Vollard published a biography (in French) which included 51+2 reproductions and 174 drawings; it also includes an index of names (aR19=iR19). The English translation published in 1925 includes an appendix in which in a chronological order paintings of Renoir are mentioned (aR17=iR19). Note: not all reproductions in the 1919 edition are noted in the 1925 appendix.
In 1921 Georges Rivière published his biography ‘Renoir et ses amis’; it includes 94 pictures (aR18=iR19=R82)
Note: because of the limited amount of pictures, I mostly won’t refer to these publications.
In 1971 François Daulte published his ‘Catalogue raisonné de l’oeuvre peint (vol.I: figures 1860-1890; Lausanne) (=1D=1CR=R108). Many sources refer to this catalogue raisonné.
In 1972 Elda Fezzi published ‘L’opera completa di Renoir nel periodo impressionista, 1869-83 (Milan) (=1F=R193).
WikiPedia provides two online versions: iR6 + iR6 (with several options).
I use the Dutch edition edited by Dony / Braun (=R30).
In 1985 Fezzi published a second edition called ‘Tout l’oeuvre peint de Renoir; période impressionniste 1869-1883 (=2F=R190). Note: it seems just a translation of the 1972 publication, but the ordering of the paintings is different.
From 2007-2014 Dauberville published 5 volumes: ‘Catalogue raisonné des tableaux, pastels, dessins et aquarelles’ (=2D=2CR=R185). There are not many sources that refer to this catalogue raisonné.
The Widenstein Plattner Institute (=iR180) is developing an online catalogue raisonné. They started with the still lifes Renoir made: digitalprojects.wpi.art/renoir/artworks (iR179). I am looking forward to the development of this great project!

In the future I want to render all the codes possible at each painting, so 1D=1F=2F=2D. I also want to render an overview of each Fezzi 1985 number, with corresponding 1D +1F +2D numbers. Helas, the 5 volume large catalogue raisonné of Dauberville doesn’t provide this overview.
