Cassatt 1879 expo

Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

Mary Cassatt

(1845-1926)

at the 4th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1879

an impression of her pictures

Which pictures did Mary Cassatt show in 1879?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the 11+1hc=12 art-works that Mary Cassatt showed at the 4th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1879 (catalogue numbers 46-56+hc). Most of them were portraits. Some of them are pearls of impressionist painting (see especially no.48+49), see how she renders the influence of light and shade on the colour of the skin and the dresses and the brightness of the colours. No.46 is made in a more traditional style. I render the pictures by format, number and theme. Note: If you double click on the first (of a cluster of) pictures and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. Enjoy!

Clarification:
Some suggestions are (quite) certain, others (very) uncertain. Sometimes I render more than one option, see account. Sometimes I only could find a black and white picture; than to compare I will render a similar painting. See links for the identification of paintings, the subscriptions and see for the sources at the bottom of the main page on Mary Cassatt .
