a most rewarded naturalist

Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret (1852-1929):
Born in Paris as Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan. He was raised by his grandfather and added his last name Bouveret. He was a pupil of Gérôme (and Cabanel). He was befriended with Bastien-Lepage and Gustave Courtois.

He was one of the leading members of naturalism. Also seen as a genre painter. He also was a portraitist. He depicted many scenes in Brittany. Also made melo-dramatic mythological and religious scenes.
Co-founder of the Société National des Beaux-Arts. He also exhibited at the Société des Pastellists. He received public commissions.

Made his debut at the Salon of 1875 and received a 3rd class medal in 1878 and a 1st class medal in 1880 and in 1889 a Medaille d’Honneur. So, he was a most rewarded painter. He exhibited almost yearly, see also S1878 + S1879 + SdAF-1880 + SdAF-1882 + SdAF-1885 + SdAF-1887 + SNBA-1891 + SNBA-1893.

In 1889 he received the Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle. and again in 1900. So, he was a most rewarded painter.
He joined the Exposition Universelle in 1889 at the ‘Oeuvres d’Art’ with 9 works, most of them were earlier exhibited at the Salon. In 1900 he showed 7 paintings at the decennial exhibition.

Was appointed in the Légion d’Honneur as Chevalier in 1885 and in 1892 as Officier.
He was member of L’Institut since 1900.
