Introduction:
On this page you will find some meta-impressionist paintings. They will be rendered by alphabetically and then chronologically.
See links for more info on Meta-Impressionism and for an overview of the meta-impressionists.
See links for more info and pictures on Léon Bonnat; Bouguereau; Cabanel; Cabat; David; Delacroix; Géricault; Gérôme; Ingres; Meissonier; Horace Vernet.
It is interesting to compare them with those of the Impressionists. It is interesting to see if these ‘para-impressionists’ used elements of the impressionist painting style and in what way they did differ from it.
Note: some meta-impressionists were part of L’Institut and also known as Academic painters. The paintings they made with historical, biblical and mythological themes will be rendered on the page academic paintings. Their other works will be shown on this page.
