Meta-Impressionism / Other Exhibitions
at the Georges Petit gallery
Société des Pastellistes Français
1885 onwards
Introduction:
The exhibitions of the Société des Pastellistes Français started in 1885 and were held at the Georges Petit gallery at 8, Rue de Sèze in Paris. Many para-impressionists were member through the years and exhibited several times. In 1885 there were posthumous 17 pastels exhibited of Giuseppe de Nittis. Jean-François Raffaëlli was member at least in 1885 and 1887 and exhibited at least in 1885, but not in 1887. Jean-Louis Forain at least was member and exhibited in 1892 + 93. It is curious that several members often didn’t exhibit.
The 1885 +87 +92 catalogues indicate that the Société was founded under the patronage and benefit of l’Association des Artistes Peintres, Sculpteurs, etc. The 1887 +92 +93 catalogues indicate that Roger Ballu was the President and Georges Petit the Vice-President.
The information on the Société des Pastellistes Français is limited. I could only find 4 catalogues. On this page you will find a chronological overview.
