The Salon of 1876 (the 93th) started the 1th of May in the Palais des Champs-Elysées in Paris (iR4;iR3). The catalogue mentions 3161 partakers and 4087 numbers (iR1).

(In the future) you will find some paintings that were highly rewarded at the Salon of 1876*, that can be seen as the standard of art. Giuseppe de Nittis received a 1st class medal.

Some art-works were rejected for the Salon of 1876. Among them art-works of partakers of the ‘impressionist’ expositions. Namely of Cézanne; Desboutin; J.F. Raffaëlli; Sisley*. Also two paintings of Edouard Manet were rejected, which he showed in his own studio (R1,p366).
