late-impressionist paintings
Proceeding Impressionism
Introduction:
On this page you will find some late-impressionist paintings. They will be rendered by alphabetically and then chronologically.
Late-impressionist paintings are (predominantly) done in an impressionist painting style. They are made by artists that didn’t take part in the 8 ‘impressionist’ expositions (1874-1886). They mostly were born after 1860 and mostly made these paintings after 1886. So, a generation older than Monet c.s. (born in 1840) and made after the last ‘impresssionist’ exposition of 1886.
Most of them used this painting style just occasionally, namely experimenting with it at the start of their career.
Many neo-impressionists distanced themselves from after some years from the more strict neo-impressionist painting style. They started to loosen their brushstroke, leaving behind the systhematic use of small dots (see) and/or mosaic like patches (see) of paint. Leaving behind the more scientific approach, towards a more spontaneous form of painting. In other words, they returned to an impressionist painting style.
Some artists more consequently used an impressionist painting style for a long period. Some of these artists were instructed by the key-impressionists.
All this includes also foreign artists.
