An overview of the reviews:

- 1877/04/01, Le Soir (p2), “Bruits et nouvelles” (R90I,p192*)
Part of a larger article. The exposition of the so-called impressionists will open the 5th of April. There will be less partakers, because there has been a split within this group. Some have founded a “Union artistique” open to all painters of good will and their works have been installed at the Grand-Hôtel. Still, one counts 18 partakers showing 250 paintings and drawings. - 1877/04/04, Le Courier de France (p3), “Echos et nouvelles” (R90I,p141*)
The first part is almost the same as a review in Le Soir (Rv1). It continues with: Caillebotte shows persons en-plein-air; Degas, drawings mainly depicting women in a boulevard café; Monet shows a serie of the Saint-Lazare station; Pissaro (sic) has made landscapes of Pontoise and it’s surroundings; Renoir shows le Bal au moulin de la Galette. Some new followers are: Cesanne* (sic), Guillaumin*, Piette, Lamy, etc…”

Part of a larger article. The exposition of the impressionists has opened yesterday. The number of visitors was considerable. Even those who had a critical attitude, stood still before several paintings and admired them. Landscapes full of freshness, vitality and light, truly render the impression of nature. The catalogue is more comprehensive than last year, containing 241 numbers. He sums up the 18 partakers. This exposition will render a large effect on those who are interested in the transformation of art. - 1877/04/05, La Liberté (p3), “Avis divers” (R90I,p161*)
Announcement within a large article. The exposition of the ‘impressionnalistes’ has opened today. - 1877/04/06, Le Constitutionnel (p2), “Faits divers” (R90I,p141*)

- 1877/04/06, Le Courrier de France (p2), Ch. Flor O’Squarr (=Charles Flor), “Les Impressionnistes” (R90I,p172+173***)
- 1877/04/06, La Patrie (p1), “Nouvelles du jour” (R90I,p174*)
Part of a larger article. Today the exposition of the impressionists has opened in a large appartement prepaired ad hoc, opposite the gallery of Durand Ruel. These 18 painters don’t form a school. Claude Monet, one of the leaders of this sect, shows no less than 30 paintings. M. Manet continues to separate from this group.
It continues: The paintings that mainly attracted the attention of the public are: le Bal du Moulin-de-la-Galette and the portrait of Mlle. Jeanne Samary by Renoir; several views on the Saint-Lazare station, the Dindons blancs, by Monet; portraits by Mlle Berthe Morisot; landscape studies by Maureau; some works of Cézanne and some other painters Sisley, Caillebotte, etc.; and almost a part pastels by Degas showing theatre scenes. Yesterday, a privileged public, from the world of art, literature, theater have been invited to visit the exposition before it’s opening. - 1877/04/06, L’Impressionniste (p1-2), G.R. (=Georges Rivière), “À M. le rédacteur du Figaro” (R90I,p176+177**)
- 1877/04/06, Le Rappel (p2), “Les Impressionnistes” (R90I,p178+179**)
- 1877/04/06, L’Impressionniste (p2-6), G. Rivière, “L’Exposition des impressionnistes” (R90I,p179-181***)
- 1877/04/06, Le Soir (p1), “Bruits et nouvelles” (R90I,p192*)
Part of a larger article. The first part is almost identical as the short review in La Patrie (Rv17).
Also published the 21st, the 28th of April and the 5th of May. - 1877/04/07, Le Sportsman (p2), Bariolette, “Notes parisiennes” (R90I,p126+127**)
- 1877/04/07, Le Bien public (p2), Dénicheff, “A bâtons rompus” (R90I,p142*)
Renders a short satirical conversation at the ‘exposition des impressionnistes, chez Durand-Ruel’. - 1877/04/07, La France (p2), (Marius Vachon), “Carnet de la journée: L’Exposition des impressionnistes” (R90I,p147*)
One sees funny, comical, extraordinary, unbelievable things. The colours dance a wildly exuberant cancan. - 1877/04/07, Gazette de France (p2), “Chronique” (R90I,p148+149*).
This year there are new names, among them Cézanne*, Cals*, Maureau, etc.
Note*: Cézanne already joined in 1874 and Cals also in 1876. Caillebotte shows 3 large paintings (no.2, 3, 1) that render solid qualities. Degas shows us very original pastels of dansers. The colouring is fine and just, but the drawing and the arrangement leaves a whole lot to be desired. Renoir shows about 20 paintings, among them the portrait of Mlle Samary (no.191) and le bal du Moulin de la Galette (no.186). M. Moureau (sic) a vue de la place Pigalle. M. Sisley some landscapes. We have mentioned the best. When one sees the landscapes of Monet and the bathers of Cézanne one sees till where the intransigeant approach in painting goes. With Cézanne impressionism has gone up or down a next level. - 1877/04/07, Le Petit Journal (p1), Thomas Grimm (=Pierre Véron), “Les Impressionnistes” (R90I,p151-153***)
- 1877/04/07, L’Ordre (p2), “Le Monde et la ville” (R90I,p172*)
Yesterday the ad hoc exposition has opened. They are not a school. Claude Monet shows the most works and is one of the leaders of this group.
Note: there are several similarities with the review in La Patrie (Rv17) and Le Soir (Rv21). - 1877/04/07, Le Petit Parisien (p2), A.P. (=Alexandre Pothey), “Beaux-Arts” (R90I,p173+172**)
- 1877/04/07, Paris-Journal (p2), Jules Robert (=Augustin Challamel), “La Journée: Echos et nouvelles” (R90I,p187*)
The first part is largely the same as a review in La Patrie (Rv17) and Le Soir (Rv21). It adds: the day before yesterday, a privileged public from the world of art, literature, theater had been invited to visit the exposition before it’s opening*. Tomorrow our colleague M. Bertall will render impressions on the exhibition (=Rv36).
Note*: again there are similarities with the review in La Patrie (Rv17). - 1877/04/07, Le Bien public (p2), Paul Sebillot, “Exposition des impressionnistes” (R90I,p189+190***)

Part of a larger article. I want to recall the origins of this young school who has Batignolles as their cradle. The first masters are Monnet (sic), Sysley (sic) and Piparo (sic). There first shows took place at Durand-Ruel*. Faure was one of the first buyers. The group has it’s intolerant people and its deserters, who organise a counter-exhibition. - 1877/04/11, Vert-Vert (p1) (R90I,p193+199)

Part of a larger article. This Salon has revolutionary claims. Many works shown are absolutely ridicule and horrible and one searches in vain for a trace of talent or education. He makes an exception for about 20 works of Ch. Tillot, Rouard (sic), Cals, Mme Berthe Morisot and Piette. The pastels of Degas will probably not be accepted at the Salon, but they are full of live, originality and observation. - 1877/04/14, L’Art français (p129-131), Gonzague-Privat, “L’Exposition des impressionnistes” (R90I,p149+150***)
