Introduction:
Apart from the Salon and their own ‘impressionist’ expositions, auction sales were a way to promote oneself as an artist and to sell art-works. Several important auction sales were held at the Durand-Ruel gallery. On this page you will find an overview. First of the collections of the the partakers of the ‘impressionist’ expositions and of other artists, and then those of important art-collectors.

Here below you will find the auctions that have been held at the Durand-Ruel gallery of collections of the  partakers of the ‘impressionist’ expositions and of other artists. When available, you will find links to the catalogues.
Paul Durand-Ruel was often present as expert at other auctions, namely at Hôtel Drouot.

Here below you will find the auctions that have been held at the Durand-Ruel gallery of important collections of art-collectors.

  • 1873/06/07: auction of the collection of Faure at 26, Boulevard des Italiens (note: not at Durand-Ruel, but he was the expert).(link to PDF at archive.org = iR19).
    It included 31 paintings, including 11 of Dupré, 6 of Delacroix, 5 of Corot, 2 of Millet and of Rousseau, 1 of Diaz, Hébert, Ribot and Roybet.
  • 1887/05/05+06: auction sale of the collection of French paintings formed by M. Durand-Ruel of Paris by Moore’s Art Galleries, New York. Note1: the numbers 1-63 were sold the 5th and the numbers 64-127 were sold the 6th. Note 2: the works of Monet were sold for much more, than those of most others, including those of Boudin, Desboutin, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley. (iR19,ia600101)
  • 1907/03/04: 1st auction of paintings (1-79) and pastels + watercolours (80-89) of Georges Viau: auction of 89 works; with extended decriptions and some pictures;
    Including of Boudin (1+2), Cals  (3+4), Cassatt, Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, Guillaumin (6x), Lebourg, Lépine, Monet, Morrisot, Pissarro, Renoir and Sisley.
