1884/85, 1st Salon des Indépendants, general info: The first Salon des Indépendants held 1884/12/10 – 1885/01/17 (=1SdI-1884/12). The inauguration was the 1st of December (aR3=iR387). The exhibition was held at the Pavillon polychrome de la Ville de Paris, near the Palais de l’Industrie (now the Petit Palais) on the Champs-Élysées. It was also called “Salon d’hiver” and it included painters, sculpteurs, architects, engravers and draughtsmen (aR3=iR387). It was held as a benefit for the victims of cholera (aR10;R39,p299).
The catalogue rendered 104* partakers and 280 catalogue numbers (R229,p65;aR10). Guinard** was the chairman and Dubois-Pillet the organizer. 5 (future) partakers of the ‘impressionist’ expositions were present. The Salon des Indépendants became for some an alternative independant group exhibition for the ‘impressionist’ expositions. Note*: according to the 1934 catalogue there were 103 partakers.
