Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:
‘impressionist’ expositions
1874 – 1886
8 catalogues
starting page
From 1874-1886 there were 8 independent group expositions held in Paris.
They are now mostly called the ‘impressionist’ expositions.
On this page you will find links to the 8 catalogues of these expositions, including additional information.
Many sources on Impressionism just render the amount of catalogue numbers as the number of art-works that were exhibited. But in reality several catalogue numbers contained more than 1 art-work and several works were exhibited, but not in the catalogue (=hc). Also the in the catalogue indicated used techniques differ from actual technique used. This and more will be indicated in the catalogues you are linked to.
Note: all this makes it less clear how many art-works made with what techniques were exhibited. For more info see the accounts of the partakers of the 8 ‘impressionist’ expositions.
