Desboutin, expo 1876

Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

Marcellin Desboutin

(1823-1902)

At the 2nd ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1876

Which art-works did Desboutin show in 1876?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the about 20 art-works that Desboutin exhibited at the 2nd ‘impressionist’ exposition of 1876 (catalogue numbers 60-72+hc) (R2,p161). All works depicted portraits / figures.
One painting was not in the catalogue (=hc), so in total Desboutin showed 8 paintings (catalogue numbers 60-66+hc) , but of several only etchings excit. Here below you will first find 8 compilations that give an impression of the exhibited paintings.
Desboutin also showed at least 12 dry point etchings; there were 6 catalogue numbers (67-72), but each had a plural form in the title. I render compilations with 2 or more pictures, in line with the given indications in the reviews. Some suggestions are quite certain, others more uncertain and others to compare. For no.67 I render a picture of one plate depicting several pictures. For no.72-2 (Le faiseur de cigarettes) I render to compare 3 pictures of other artists. See the link for an account. See link for an explanation of the subscriptions. See for the used sources below at the main page about Marcellin Desboutin. Note: If you double click on the first (of a cluster of) pictures and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. On a smartphone or laptop you can also zoom in. Enjoy!
