Expos 1874-86: other techniques

Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

The ‘impressionist’ expositions

1874 – 1886

Other techniques

An overview

Introduction:
At the 8 ‘impressionist’ expositions held from 1874-1886 in Paris there were sometimes techniques used that can’t be catagorised as oil painting, aquarelle, pastel, drawing, engraving, sculpture or fan. All these in total 10 art-works made with other techniques you will find on this page. In 1874 notably Meyer showed 5 enamel art-works. In 1874, 1879 and 1881 there have been 5 other art-works exhibited, which can also been seen as applied art. Most of my suggestions are compilations to compare. Note: If you double click on the first picture and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. On a smartphone or laptop you can also zoom in. Enjoy!

Account:
In 1874 some partakers used other techniques: Alfred Meyer showed 5 enamel art-works (nos.87-91). Léon Ottin exhibited a (drawing of a) curtain made for a theater (no.132). So in total there were  6 art-works exhibited made with mixed techniques, about 2,7% of the total amount of art-works in 1874. In 1879 Marie Bracquemond showed 1 plate and Forain 2 screens. In 1881 Zandomeneghi showed a panel. In 1876, 1877, 1880, 1882 and 1886 there were no art-works shown made by other techniques. So in total there have been just 10 art-works exhibited made by other techniques, mostly applied art. This is just about a 0,5% of the whole of 2053 art-works exhibited.

Alfred Meyer:
In 1874 Alfred Meyer showed 5 enamel art-works (nos.87-91). I render compilations that will give an impression (for no.89 I render 2):

In 1874 Léon Ottin exhibited a project for a curtain made for a theater (no.132), maybe this was a drawing. To compare I will render a drawing of another artist:
1IE-1874-132,  La fête chez Thérèse, projet de rideau de théâtre.

Mary Bracquemond:
In 1879 Marie Bracquemond showed an earthenware plate (no.2), for which I render two uncertain options:
4IE-1879-2,    Un plat de faïence (peinture mate)

Jean-Louis Forain:
In 1879 Forain exhibited 2 screens (no.105+106), both loans by Alphonse Daudet, for which I couldn’t find suggestions:
Note: another word for (folding) screen is ‘paravent’ (iR3). I will render to compare two folded screens of another artist.
4IE-1879-105, Un écran; appartient à M. Alphonse Daudet
4IE-1879-106, Un écran; appartient à M. Alphonse Daudet

Federico Zandomeneghi:
In 1881 Zandomeneghi exhibited a Panel for a dining room (no.169), a loan by an unknown mister G., for which I couldn’t find a suggestion of Zandomeneghi. To compare I render a compilation of works of other artists:
6IE-1881-169,  Panneau pour une salle à manger; appartient à M. G.

Sources:
As indicated, I could find uncertain suggestions or works (of other artists) to compare. See the accounts of the partaking artists in the left menu (or at the bottom).
My main sources are the catalogues of the 8 ‘impressionist’ expositions as rendered by Moffett (1986=R2), Berson (1996=R90I) and the Salon database (iR1). See the link for other general References (=Rx) and to the internet references (=iRx). See links for practical hints and abbreviations and for the subscription of the paintings.
