Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

slideshow

of the

8th ‘impressionist’ exposition

1886

Introduction:
In 1886 the ‘8me exposition de peinture‘ was held in Paris. This exposition is now mostly called the 8th ‘impressionist’ exposition. There were 18 partakers. The catalogue rendered the numbers 1-246, but in reality there were about 303 art-works exhibited. On this page you will find 271 pictures of these exhibited art-works. See the accounts of the partaking artists and the clarification at the bottom of this page. If you double click on the first picture and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. On a smartphone or laptop you can also zoom in. Enjoy!

Clarification:
On this page you find 271 suggestions for the about 303 art-works that were exhibited at the 8th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1886. Number 233 was left out.The following works probably or maybe were not exhibited: nos. 17+18+20+27+28 (of Degas), but because of the uncertainty I still will render them.
Note 1: the given suggestions vary from certain (=!), to almost certain (=?!), to uncertain (=?), to very uncertain (=??), to most uncertain (=???), to compare (=compare:) with another work of the artist, to compare with a similar work from another artist or even a photo. Sometimes (29x) I have no suggestion at all, namely for the numbers 5 (of Marie Bracquemond), 81 (of Guillaumin), 115 (Lucien Pissarro), hc (of Redon), nos. 144 + 146 + 147 +148 +154 +156 +157 +159 +162 +164 +165 (of Rouart); nos. 203 +208 + 209 + 210 (=2x) +211 +212 +213 +214 +216 +217 (of Tillot); no.238 (of Zandomeneghi); neither do I have a suggestion for the at least 2 works that Comtesse de Rambure exhibited outside the catalogue (=hc). Helas, of several options I could only find a picture in black and white, namely no.52 of Gauguin; no.70 of Guillaumin; nos. 93-1 +94-2 +94-3 +94-4 of Morisot; no. 97 of Camille Pissarro; nos. 116-1/2/3/4/5/7/8/9/10/11 of Lucien Pissarro; nos. 152 +155 +161 +163 of Rouart; no.166 of Schuffenecker; no.187+194 of Signac; no.228 of Vignon; no.236+244 of Zandomeneghi. The following pictures I render to compare are quite weak: no. 67 of Guillaumin; no.200 of Signac; no.202+204 of tillot;no.221 of Vignon. See the accounts of the partaking artists.
