Impressionism: a historical reconstruction

Charles-Victor Tillot

(1825-1906)

At the 4th impressionist exposition in 1879

an impression of his exhibited art-works

Which art-works did Tillot exhibit in 1879?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the 12 art-works that Charles Tillot showed at the 4th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1879 (catalogue numbers 231-241). There were 9 reviews, but there are hardly pictures known of Tillot, so identification is almost impossible. I mostly render to compare compilations of pictures, also using pictures of other artists or even photo’s. (The things that fit are indicated with a green colour, that don’t fit in a red colour and that partly fit in an orange colour.) In this way I hope to give at least some impression of what Charles Tillot did exhibit in 1879. See the account. Here below you will find a more thematical representation of his exhibited works. In the slideshow you will find them in the order of the catalogue numbers.
For info on the sources see at the bottom of the main page about Charles Tillot. Enjoy!

Landscapes:
Charles Tillot showed 3 landscapes. Two marines probably both made at in Villers-sur-Mer (50km south of Le Havre) (no. 231 +232) and a village view of Barbizon (no.241).

Flower still lifes:
Charles Tillot showed 7 flower still lifes (no.233-238). No.238 consisted of two paintings (deux tableaux de fleurs sous le même numéro).
Mostly I render a compilation of a painting of Tillot and a painting of another artist that better fits the catalogue title. For no.236 I render two paintings of two other artists. See the account.

Figure paintings:
Charles Tillot showed 2 figure paintings (no.239 +240). I render to compare a work of Jules Breton and one of Jean-François Millet.
