Petit-Gennevilliers

Impressionism, locations

where the ‘impressionists’ did paint:

Petit-Gennevilliers

opposite Argenteuil

Introduction:
Petit-Gennevilliers is now part of Gennevilliers. It lies 14km west of Paris and on the opposite bank of the Seine of Argenteuil, where Claude Monet lived from end 1871 till early 1878. Around 1880/1882 Gustave Caillebotte acquired a house in Petit-Gennevilliers on the Quai du Petit-Gennevilliers (former number 77, now a factory terrain); his garden reached the Seine (R102,p9+14+49). Several painters depicted Petit-Gennevilliers, its surroundings, the banks of the Seine and a view on the opposite Argenteuil. On this page you will find works of Monet, Caillebotte and other artists. You can compare those works and you will find themes like the Caillebotte estate, along the Seine and the fields of Petit-Gennevilliers.

Works of Monet:
When Claude Monet lived from end 1871 till early 1878 in Argenteuil, he depicted many scenes in Petit-Gennevilliers, namely along the Seine.

Comparing Caillebotte and Monet:
Caillebotte would paint (1881 onwards) the scenes Monet depicted before (from 1871-78). To compare I render some works.

Caillebotte his estate:
Around 1880/1882 Gustave Caillebotte acquired a house in Petit-Gennevilliers on the Quai du Petit-Gennevilliers (former number 77, now a factory terrain); his garden reached the Seine (R102,p9+14+49).

Works of other artists:
Also other artists depicted scenes in Petit-Gennevilliers.

The fields in Petit-Gennevilliers:
Several artists depicted the fields in Petit-Gennevilliers.
