Meta-Impressionism / other exhibitions:
Salon des Refusés
1863
an emperor ordained exhibition
hardly related to the independant ‘impressionist’ expositions
Introduction:
The Salon des Refusés held in 1863 was ordained by the Emperor and in that sense hardly related to the independant ‘impressionist’ expositions. Le déjeuner sur l’herbe of Manet is often mentioned in books on Impressionism, but was not made in an impressionist painting style. Not all artists that were rejected by the jury for the Salon of 1863 exhibited at this Salon des Refusés, including Renoir.
More info you will find on the main page on the Salon des Refusés. On this page you will find some pictures that were (probably) exhibited. First those of the The works are shown by form and alphabetically per artist. Note: If you double click on the first (of a cluster of) pictures and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. On a smartphone or laptop you can also zoom in. Enjoy!
Exhibited art-works by the ‘impressionist’:
The following partakers of the ‘impressionist’ expositions were rejected and showed their art-works at the Salon des Refusées, some outside the catalogue (=hc): Félix Bracquemond (2 engravings); Cals (1x); Cézanne (hc); Colin (1x); Guillaumin (hc); Legros (1x); Léon Ottin (4x); Pissarro (3x); Tillot (1x). See also the accounts of these artists.
Some works were exhibited without being in the catalogue, like (unidentified) works of Cézanne, Colin and Guillaumin.
Note: additional info and pictures will follow.
The art-works will be rendered by form, first the paintings, then other art-works and then alphabettically.
Exhibited art-works by other artists:
Here below you will find some art-works of some other artists that were exhibited at the Salon-des-Refusés of 1863. You will find them in an alphabetical order. This will not give you an overall impression (that is outside the scope of this website). Namely works of pre-impressionist, para-impressionist and other related artists will be shown. Namely the following artists showed art-works: Jongkind; Manet. Many artists and the works they showed are now completely vanished.
Note: additional info and pictures will follow.
