Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:
Comtesse de Rambure
alias: Jacques François
=Marquise de Rambures
born as: (Louise Amour) Marie de Bouillé (1844-1924)
a female partaker in 1886
and also in 1876 + 1877
Introduction:
At the 8th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1886 Mme de Rambures showed at least 2 paintings. She was named Comtesse de Rambure* and identified with her pseudonym ‘M. François‘ .
Note*: without an ‘s’.
She was not in the catalogue, but noted in two reviews. This made her the 18th partaker in 1886.
The critic Félix Fénéon* remarked sarcasticly: ‘la comtesse de Rambure of which the catalogue did not dare to mention her submissions.’ (R90I,p442;R5,p151;R90II,p250;R1,p523;aR10,p833). This plural form ‘submissions’ indicates she showed at least two works.
In a review of ‘H’ (1886/06/11) in ‘Le Journal des arts’ is written: ‘Finally, the blue woman of M. François, and we will end by regretting that most of these paintings are not more seriously finished.’ (R90I,p452).
‘Most of these paintings’ even suggests more than two paintings. Still, I will render just two paintings.
One must depict a ‘blue woman’, probably a woman in a blue dress. And most likely the second showed a still life, as she had earlier showed often before.
I hope that in the future more works of Mme Marquise de Rambures become public domain, so that I can render more appropriate suggestions.

See links for an impression of the works she exhibited in 1876 and in 1877, using the pseudonym ‘Jacques François‘.
