Impressionism: a historical reconstruction
Charles-Victor Tillot
(1825-1906)
At the 8th impressionist exposition in 1886
an impression of his exhibited art-works
Which art-works did Tillot exhibit in 1886?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the at least 18 art-works that Charles Tillot showed at the 8th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1886 (catalogue numbers 202-217). There were 10 reviews, but there are hardly pictures known of Tillot, so identification is almost impossible. I mostly render to compare compilations of pictures, also using pictures of other artists or even photo’s. (The things that fit are indicated with a green colour, that don’t fit in a red colour and that partly fit in an orange colour.) In this way I hope to give at least some impression of what Charles Tillot did exhibit in 1886. See my account. Here below you will find a more thematical representation of his exhibited works. In the slideshow you will find them in the order of the catalogue numbers.
For info on the sources see at the bottom of the main page about Charles Tillot. Enjoy!
Landscapes:
Charles Tillot showed 3 landscapes; 1 marine was made at in Villers-sur-Mer (50km south of Le Havre) (no. 204); one landscape in Annecy (no.202); one landscapes depicts an approching storm (no.203). See the account.
Flower still lifes:
Charles Tillot showed 9 flower still lifes (no.205-212). Mostly I render a compilation of a painting of Tillot and one painting of another artist that better fits (a part of) the catalogue title. For no. 208 I render a compilation of 3 paintings. No. 210 showed two studies of anemones; to compare I render a painting of Renoir and an aquarelle of Astruc within one frame; so you will find 8 pictures here below instead of 9. I namely render still lifes of Fantin-Latour (1836-1904) to compare; there are similarities in age and style between the two artists. See the account.
Figure paintings:
Charles Tillot showed 4 figure paintings, probably all nudes (no.213-216). There is just one painting known of Tillot depicting a nude on a couch, which is an uncertain option for no. 215 and which I render to compare for no. 214 and 216. For no. 214 and 216 I render a compilation of this painting with paintings of other artists, namely Jean-François Millet and Fantin-Latour. For no.214 I render a compilation with a picture of Millet and one of Pissarro. See the account.
Studies:
No. 217 contained a collection of studies with Chinese ink, at least 2, maybe more. I render one frame containing 2 drawings with Chinese ink of other artists (Fantin-Latour and Manet) just to render some impression. See the account.
