Impressionism: a historical reconstruction
Charles-Victor Tillot
(1825-1906)
At the 5th impressionist exposition in 1880
an impression of his exhibited art-works
Which art-works did Tillot exhibit in 1880?
On this page you will find an accounted impression of the about 20 art-works that Charles Tillot showed at the 5th ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1880 (catalogue numbers 193-206). There were 9 reviews, but there are hardly pictures known of Tillot, so identification is almost impossible. I mostly render to compare compilations of pictures, also using pictures of other artists or even photo’s. (The things that fit are indicated with a green colour, that don’t fit in a red colour and that partly fit in an orange colour.) In this way I hope to give at least some impression of what Charles Tillot did exhibit in 1880. See my account. Here below you will find a more thematical representation of his exhibited works. In the slideshow you will find them in the order of the catalogue numbers.
For info on the sources see at the bottom of the main page about Charles Tillot. Enjoy!
Landscapes:
Charles Tillot showed 5 landscapes; 3 marines were made at in Villers-sur-Mer (50km south of Le Havre) (no. 193 +194 +195) and a forest view (no.196) and a church view (no.197). Mostly I render a compilation, also rendering pictures of other artists like Jean Maxime Claude, Caillebotte, Guillemet and also showing a photo. See the account.
Flower still lifes:
Charles Tillot showed 5 flower still lifes (no.199-203). Mostly I render a compilation of a painting of Tillot and one painting of another artist that better fits (a part of) the catalogue title. For no. 200 +203 I render a compilation of a painting of Tillot and two paintings of other artists. To compare I namely render pictures of Fantin-Latour. See the account.
Figure paintings:
Charles Tillot showed 2 figure paintings (no.198 +206). To compare I render paintings of two other artists, namely Fantin-Latour and Jean-François Millet. See the account.
Studies:
No. 204 and 205 both showed 1 frame with studies and sketches. I assume both numbers showed at least 4 pictures. For each number I render one frame containing 4 studies of other artists (Rousseau and Corot) just to render some impression. It is completely obscure what Tillot depicted in his studies. I assume (details from) landscapes. See the account.
