Jean-Baptiste Millet: 1876 expo

Impressionism, a historical reconstruction:

Jean-Baptiste Millet

(1830-1906)

An impression of his pictures at the

2nd ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1876

What pictures did Jean-Baptiste Millet show at the 2nd ‘impressionist’ exposition?
Jean-Baptiste Millet showed 10 art-works (catalogue numbers 138-147) at the ‘2nd impressionist’ expositions, including 5 watercolours and 2 sepia drawings. My sources don’t render suggestions and none of the works were described in the reviews. Most of the works of Millet are not dated and several themes he depicted very often (see also the overview of his pictures). 6 works were loans, but there is hardly anything known about the provenance of the art-works of Millet. All this, makes my suggestions very uncertain. Some works I render to compare. But, still, in this way you will have any impression of the works he showed in 1876. See link for an account. See link for an explanation of the subscription. For the sources see at the bottom of the mainpage about Jean-Baptiste Millet. Note: If you double click on the first picture and then click on full screen, you can create a slideshow. Enjoy!
