Which art-works did Degas exhibit in 1874? On this page you will find an accounted impression of the 10 art-works that were shown by Edgar Degas at the 1st ‘impressionist’ exposition in 1874 (catalogue numbers: 54-63). The suggestions of just 2 works are certain, for most of the other pictures I render more than 1 (very) uncertain suggesion, sometimes just to compare. I render the pictures in a thematical order. Clarification: Only no. 55 + 63 are certain suggesions. For no.54 I couldn’t find an oil painting that fits the extended description of Jean Prouvaire (=Pierre Toloza) (1874/04/20), this also applies to CR341 that is often suggested, so I render a composed picture. The catalogue indicates that Degas showed 4 drawings (nos.58 +59 +60 +61), but (thinned) oil paintings are suggested instead. Still, I will also render drawings as (very) uncertain options or to compare. It is strange that of a well documented artist as Degas, the identification of 8 of the 10 exhibited art-works are uncertain, see. More than once I render several suggestions, sometimes just to ‘compare’.. See link for an account. See also a thematical overview of his exhibited art-works. For explanation of the subscriptions, see. See for the used sources at the bottom of the main page about Edgar Degas.
